Psalm 19:8 The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
What a wonderful promise from the Lord. The Bible is full of promises. As we go through life...tired, sick, discouraged, wondering where all the "joy" is that has been promised to us? We are children of God. We are supposed to have joy. Yet so few of us actually allow ourselves to tap into this never ending well of joy. Paul tells us to renew our minds daily. Not every other day...not weekly...not monthly. But daily. If we are to allow God to have our day, we must give it to Him...daily. When we do this, we are supernaturally enabled to make choices, right choices, daily. This is where our joy comes in. "The precepts of the LORD are right, giving JOY to the heart.
My son was telling me a story the other day about a friend of his who wanted him to do something that he knew was wrong. As we were driving down the road he said,"I told him no, that I didn't want to do it, and that my parents wouldn't like it". As I gave him praises for doing the right thing he looked at me and his eyes were beaming ("The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes") as he grinned from ear to ear proclaiming, "it felt good". AMEN! It feels so good to do what is right. That's because we have the heart of God. It feels good to make the right choices. Unfortunately, so many of us adults cannot even remember what it feels like to feel good about making a right choice.
Perhaps we can set a goal...a goal to daily renew our minds, to daily make right choices, and to daily have joy beyond all human comprehension...to feel good the way God intended.
Just think about that.
